Keyboard Angle Adjustment

Nested folding legs allow a data-entry keyboard to be adjusted to several different tilt angles relative to a work surface.

Data-entry keyboard enclosure 10, shown from the rear in the figure, is relatively thin (less than 30 mm.), and has a tapering profile 11 such that the minimum angle of the key-containing top face 12 is about 5 degrees when bottom plate 13 rests flat on a work surface. Two sets of nested legs 20 allow this angle to be increased for operator comfort or convenience. Plastic legs 21, when fully extended to the rear of enclosure 10, increase the angle of top surface 12 to a maximum angle of about 20 degrees. When legs 21 are rotated forward into apertures 14 in enclosure 10, shorter legs 22 emerge from recesses 23 in legs 21. Legs 22 support top surface 12 at an angle of about 15 degrees. Rotated forward, re-entering recesses 23 inside apertures 14, legs 22 expose yet shorter legs 24 from recesses 25. Legs 24 incline surface 12 at about 10 degrees, and can be rotated forward into recesses 25 to lower the surface 12 to its minimum angle of 5 degrees. Legs 22, 24 are pivoted about a shaft 26 for frictionally restrained movement, and leg 21 is fixedly mounted to shaft 26. Tab 27 is rotated clockwise to expose all of the legs 21, 22, 24; individual legs may then be rotated forward individually (counterclockwise) into recesses 14 to reduce the angle by the desired amount.
