Segmented Thin Film Sensor

A segmented thin film bubble sensor enables the bubble signal to be modified by varying the width and location of the sensor segments.

As shown in Fig. 1, a bubble detector 10 consists of expander elements 12 positioned over a thin film sensor 14. The sensor 14 has three segments 16, 18 and 20 that are positioned in a stepped relationship. Segment 18 is wider than segments 16 and 20.

The bubble signal of sensor 14 is the integration of the individual signals of segments 16, 18 and 20. An example of an integrated signal is the pulse shape shown in Fig. 2.
