Abstract

Operations are provided to change initial work station and printer program defaults, thereby allowing en operator to customize defaults to fit the operator's individual requirements. When desired and selected from a program list or menu, a "change printer description" task allows the operator to specify the type of printer and the type of paper handling to be supported by a printer. Likewise, the "change work station description" task allows each user to specify the keyboards to be used and, also, to activate any optional system features.

Varying Work Station and Printer Programs

Operations are provided to change initial work station and printer program defaults, thereby allowing en operator to customize defaults to fit the operator's individual requirements. When desired and selected from a program list or menu, a "change printer description" task allows the operator to specify the type of printer and the type of paper handling to be supported by a printer. Likewise, the "change work station description" task allows each user to specify the keyboards to be used and, also, to activate any optional system features.

Once the operator selects the "change printer description" option on a program task selection menu, depresses an enter key, and, if necessary, loads the initial program load (IPL) program, the change printer description menu will be displayed. The changes made to the printer description, however, will not be effective until the updated program is subsequently used to IPL a system.

The change work station description task allows the operator to identify the work station options to be active when this program is used to IPL the system and to identify selected system processing defaults. The program received by the operator will contain a default work station description. This task allows the operator to review and update (revise) the work station description as re...
