Variable mechanical stress can be accurately applied to an element by selectively positioning an adjustable contact arm at the desired load of a linear deflection probe.

Referring to the figures, conductive rod 1 supported by insulative sleeve 2 in conductive housing 3 is connected to one terminal of the battery 4. The opposite terminal of the battery is connected to one terminal of the miniature horn 5 whose other terminal is connected to the housing. A conductive arm 6 having contact surface 7 is secured to a pair of conductive clips 8 that grip housing 3.

In use, probe tip 9 is placed against an element to be loaded, such as a pin, and stressed until the deflected probe engages surface 7, completing the circuit through the horn. A scale 10 may be provided on the housing to enable placement of the slidable contact arm at the desired load.
