Abstract

In an air circulation system for a head/disk assembly (HDA), a h labyrinth seal 1 is provided between the shaft bearing 2 and the interior 3 of the HDA. An integral cooling fan 4 generates a low pressure area 5, and the area between the seal 1 and the bearing 2 is vented via bypass vent 6 to the low pressure area. Air flow through the seal is outward through vent 7, thus blocking contamination from the bearing from entering the HDA.
