Abstract

To maintain a constant close spacing of an air bearing head slider relative to a magnetic disk surface, the slider is configured with tab areas 1 and 2 at the corners of the tapered leading edge 3 of the slider structure. The tabs are formed by machining the corners of the air bearing surface to a desired depth. The slider includes shaped rails 4 and 5 with a connecting portion 6. The geometry and dimensional proportioning of the slider allow control of the flight attitude or pitch of the slider as well as the determination of the head to disk spacing.
