Abstract

This magnet system can be used to fire hammers in printers with accurate hammer on time generation. Such accurate generation permits the hammer on time to be made shorter than the seal time, so that area 1 (Fig. 1), used for hammer firing and located below the magnetization characteristic, is increased over that occurring when the hammer on time exceeds the seal time. This improves the efficiency of the magnet system, because the current still flowing when the pulse applied to coil 2 (Fig. 2) is switched off is used for power transfer in this coil.

Magnet System with Improved Efficiency

This magnet system can be used to fire hammers in printers with accurate hammer on time generation. Such accurate generation permits the hammer on time to be made shorter than the seal time, so that area 1 (Fig. 1), used for hammer firing and located below the magnetization characteristic, is increased over that occurring when the hammer on time exceeds the seal time. This improves the efficiency of the magnet system, because the current still flowing when the pulse applied to coil 2 (Fig. 2) is switched off is used for power transfer in this coil.

The seal time can be adjusted by means of an adjustment screw 3 against which armature 4 is forced in its rest position by restoring spring 5. Adjustment screw 3 determines the course of armature movement.
