Abstract

This migration method as applied to serial data transmission requires that the first character, after the frame start character, be the migration character. Products are required to reject any frame that has a migration character that they do not recognize. Thus, as new architectures are defined, they will use a unique migration character that "old" products will reject, allowing the "old" product to co-exist with the new with no modification and without putting further constraints, other than the migration character, on the new architecture.

This migration method as applied to serial data transmission requires that the first character, after the frame start character, be the migration character. Products are required to reject any frame that has a migration character that they do not recognize. Thus, as new architectures are defined, they will use a unique migration character that "old" products will reject, allowing the "old" product to co- exist with the new with no modification and without putting further constraints, other than the migration character, on the new architecture.

This method can be used to separate architectures whether they be old or new. It provides a very inexpensive and simple method to migrate to better future products with no impact on those products already in existence.
