A proposed cost reduction in AC plasma display panel fabrication t is that aluminum wire be bonded to a glass plate in a continuous strand from edge to edge of the plate, with turnarounds made on sacrificial glass lead strips located at each of the plates.

Referring to Fig. 1, glass plate 11 has associated sacrificial strips 13 and 15 attached thereto or forming end portions thereof, and a single conductor 17 of aluminum wire has turnarounds on both the sacrificial lead strips 13 and 15. When the required number of conductors have been formed, the sacrificial lead strips 13 and 15 are cut or otherwise separated from the glass plate 11, and the individual conductors terminated on the edge portions 19 and 21 thereof. The conductors are then rolled flat to approximately .003" wide and the turnaround end portions severed. The proposed edge connector plan, not shown) was to use two KAPTON* flex connections with pads on a .028 pitch which would contact alternate conductors on opposite sides of the plate. However, severe restrictions on connector pad location tolerance and placement precision made this system difficult to implement and maintain in a manufacturing mode. These problems were eliminated by the system shown in Fig. 2 and described below.
