Laminated Fluid Duct

A miniaturized air duct can be made from a plurality of layers of material to form a laminate of plastic and/or metal foils. The middle layers include patterned shapes hollowed out for the passage of the fluid. The outer layers have openings only at the connection points and the nozzles.

The duct of Fig. 1 comprises a laminate structure including outer laminate layers 1 and 2 and a middle layer 3 having a patterned shape 4 hollowed out for the passage of fluid such as air from its nozzle 5. The outer laminate layers 1 and 2 include openings 6 and 7, respectively, as inlet passages for the fluid. In- plane curvatures and different branching of the nozzles are easily accomplished by the pattern in the middle layer 3, as shown in Fig. 2. Where Fig. 1 only includes one nozzle 5, the middle layer 3A of Fig. 2 includes a plurality of nozzles 5A, three being shown.

Fig. 3 shows a cross-section of the fluid duct showing the configuration of the separate layers. The outer layers 1 and 2 each include a metal and a plastic layer. For instance the outer laminate layers 1 and 2 can have a copper layer 8 covered by a polyester film 9 of polyethylene terephthalate. The outer laminate layers 1 and 2 cover the middle layer 3, which can be made of either a plastic or a metal such as copper.
