Single Pulse Swap Switch

A single pulse bubble swap switch design has an arrangement of two switches that are operated by a pulse through a single conductor and positioned so that the bubble switched by one switch takes the empty position created by switching the bubble at the other switch.

As shown in the drawing, bubble A propagating along path 1 will be switched into path 4 at the same time as bubble B propagating along path 2 is switched into path 3 with a single pulse passed through conductor 10. The number of propagation steps between switches 12 and 14, and merge element 16 is such that the empty position created by switching bubble A will be filled by bubble B to complete a true swap of bubble B for bubble A.

This swap requires only one pulse of approximately 90 degrees duration. Switches 12 and 14 are aligned so that a single start/ stop direction is optimum for both and where the bubbles reside at points E and F during a stop.
