Interdigitated fingers projecting from the cover on each side of a cut form document insertion slot permit the document to be clamped and indexed by the printer mechanism, yet prevent the document from falling back into printing position when the document is unclamped.

In cut form printers, it is usual to insert a cut form document in front of a journal tape for simultaneous printing on the cut form and journal tape. In operation, the platen opens to accept a cut form document inserted by the operator. When the document reaches printing position, a sensor permits the logic to close the platen and commence printing. As the document is printed, it is usually indexed upward for succeeding lines of print. In order that the document be removable by the operator, the print platen must unclamp. However, when the platen unclamps, the document falls back into print position. The sensor then detects a document and may cause the platen to reclamp on the same cut form document. Various forms of springs, etc. have been provided to hold the document in its upward indexed position after the platen unclamps. Such springs interfere with cut-form document insertion.
