Card Transporting Fixture

The transporting fixture for transporting cards to work stations must be able to handle cards of various sizes. It must be able to align the cards within the work station and permit work to be performed both at the top and bottom of the cards simultaneously. The fixture is designed to handle cards populated with components.

The transporting fixture 10 consists of a frame 12 mounted on a conveyer system. The fixture 10 is transported to appropriate work stations by the conveyer (not shown). The frame 12 has two slide members or rails 14 which are used to position the card-clamping devices. The slides 14 permit side to side movement of the clamping devices so that the cards can be placed into the work station. The clamping devices 20 are spring-loaded toward the center of the fixture so that cards located therein are centrally positioned. The center set of clamps 18 is retractable. These clamps stay locked down on wide cards which are held by the end clamps 20.

In the case of the smaller width cards, two cards can be held in position with the retractable clamps 18 in their raised position. Thus, one card would be held between the left clamps 20 and the retractable clamps 18 while the other card would be held by the same retractable clamps 18 and the right end clamps 20. The retractable clamps 18 are positioned up and down by cam actuation and are also spring loaded. The side to side movement of the traveling fixture along the slides 14 all...
