Synthesized Floating Inductor

Described herein is synthesis of an inductor which does not require either terminal to be grounded.

Referring to the figure, a gyrator realization of an inductor is shown in the dotted portion of the circuit. The synthesized inductor shown in the dotted portion of the figure is not a true floating device because the input and output currents are not identical. In fact, one of the input currents is characteristic of a resistor and not of an inductor. By adding the additional elements, resistors R0, R0 and R2 and amplifier A3, the problem is corrected, such that the inductor is a true floating inductor, that is, no current is gained or lost in the synthesized inductor. The addition of these elements corrects for the current flowing into node V1 such that it will be the same as the current flowing into node V2.
