Floating Tool Mount

There is shown and described a device for permitting controlled floating of tooling used with a robot, for example, of the pick and place type.

The device comprises four leaf springs for allowing controlled orthogonal movements. Springs 2 and 4 allow movement in a vertical plane while springs 6 and 8 allow some movement in a horizontal plane to the floating tooling mount
12. The entire device is connected to a rigid arm 14, the movement of which is controlled by the robot (not shown).

The result is that a tool constrained in the aperture in floating mount 12 is provided limited, controlled orthogonal movement during self-alignment.
