Abstract

Shown above is a paper feed roller 10 and a pressure foot 12 for feeding paper along the path indicated by arrow 14. The quantity of pressure applied by pressure foot 12 is adjustable so as to hold the paper against feed roller 10 in accordance with weight, type and size of the paper being fed.

Pressure Selective Paper Feed

Shown above is a paper feed roller 10 and a pressure foot 12 for feeding paper along the path indicated by arrow 14. The quantity of pressure applied by pressure foot 12 is adjustable so as to hold the paper against feed roller 10 in accordance with weight, type and size of the paper being fed.

The amount of pressure supplied by foot 12, when pushing the paper against feed roller 10, is controlled by the current through solenoid 16. The current in solenoid 16 depends upon the current path selected by switch 18 and the size of the resistors R1 - R3. Which current path is selected may be controlled by an operator or is preferably controlled by a microprocessor 20. The microprocessor 20 must know the weight of the paper, the paper type and the paper size being fed. For multiple types of paper a table look-up routine might be used in the microprocessor to select different currents through solenoid 16.
