Abstract

Shown above is an enlargement of the gate area in a hot runner mold. The gate 10 is the channel through which heated plastic flows from the mold probe tip 12 to the molded part 14. The gate 10 is shaped so that it has a sharp 90 degrees edge at corner 16 in the mold for part 14. The sharp 90 degrees edge for gate 10 tends to insure that, after injection, when molded part 14 is being removed from the mold in the direction of arrow 18, the plastic in gate 10 shears cleanly from the molded part 14 at the sharp corner edge 16.
