A few specially prepared documents simulate large-scale paper-path tests normally requiring large amounts of paper and time.

Test documents intentionally curled at selected edges stress mechanical feeding and detecting elements at or near their worst-case conditions. Curl height Y and length X range around design limits A and C so paper-feed errors occur for some degrees of curl, but not all. Thus, given a particular machine's dimension B, a document with curl Y1=Y2 between A and B will not jam, but one with curl Y1=Y2 between C and D may. Typical dimensions are:

Y1 : .5" Leading Edge

Y2 : 1.0" Trailing Edge

X1 : Less than 8.5"

X2 : Less than 8.5"

X3 : 8.5"
