Sheet Orientation Device

This article describes a sheet-orientation device which skews and displaces a sheet of paper relative to the X and Y coordinates.

The apparatus includes two pairs of sheet feed rollers, identified as D1 and D2. Two pairs of back-up rollers (not shown) coact with the feed rollers to form feed nips which transport sheets in the direction identified by numeral 10. Each pair of rollers (D1, D2) is mounted in spaced relationship on support shafts 12 and 13. Support shaft 12 is inclined at an angle Theta(0) with respect to the Y axis. By selecting the value of Theta(0), S, Theta(1) and the ratio D2/D1, a sheet of paper 14 exits the aligning device with a particular angle Theta(n) and displacement y. By way of example, for Theta(n)=10 degrees, y=.65 inch and S=3.5 inches, it was necessary that Theta(0)=1.16 degrees, Theta(1)=2.98 degrees and D2/D1=.879 inch.
