Vacuum Pressure Air Pick

A nozzle with a counterbore is supplied with vacuum and then pressurized air to serve both as a pick-up gauge and placement tool.

Referring to the figures, individual short lengths 1 of small tubing are drawn singly into the counterbore 2 against shoulder 3 of nozzle 4 by vacuum from among a supply of tubing pieces in the grooves 5 of scalloped block 6. The selected tubing piece is subsequently positioned and than discharged by applying pressurized air by means of a valve (not shown).

The counterbore is sized to accept only those cylindrical tubing lengths of the proper diameter and is chamfered slightly at its outer end to facilitate entry. The internal diameter of the nozzle bore is slightly larger than that of the tubing to provide adequate vacuum for attraction and adequate surface for expulsion. Pieces of tubing that are out of round will not seat in the counterbore and can be discarded.
