Error Isolation from Error Domain List

A procedure is described for obtaining an automatic indication of system error isolation from the error domain of each error latch.

Computer systems are designed with error latches that will capture error conditions existing in the hardware. These error latches have corresponding error domains, and these domains may overlap. See Fig. 1 for an example of error domains and their overlaps. A computer program can obtain the description of these domains from the design data base. This description contains all the Field Replaceable Units (FRUs) (i.e., cards) that are contained in each error domain. Fig. 1 shows the error domain list for the given overlap example. Domain 1, for example, overlaps 3 FRUs (A, B and C), while domain 7 is fully contained in one FRU (B).

The error domain list is now used to compute an indication of the system error isolation. Fig. 2 shows the procedure needed to compute these numbers. The resulting computation for the example of Fig. 1 is shown in the following table. Temporary FRU Table
