Cartridge Printwheel with Writing Line Visibility and One Piece Construction

Fig. 1 is a perspective view from a printing station of a cartridge with a wheel typefont 1. The central area is open for visibility of the printing. The upward arms 3 are ribbon guides, while the outward tabs 5 at the end are for grasping the cartridge. The cartridge can be made from one piece, with a hinge 7 (Fig. 2) formed by weakened areas in the middle and held together by pins and openings in a press fit.

A printing ribbon 9 from a typewriter, shown in dotted outline in Fig. 1, is positioned on and guided by arms 3 during use. Fig. 1 shows human fingers in dotted outline about to grasp tabs 5 as intended.

Fig. 2 shows the cartridge housing of one piece plastic prior to being closed around a typewheel 1. The central part has a weakened line which bends as a hinge 7. Pins 11 and holes 13 around the border make a pressfit. A central, cut- away area 15 on one side is bent inward to serve as a spring bias on the Internal typewheel 1 when the housing is closed.
