Programmable Matrix Fixture

This programmable matrix fixture can be programmed in a short period of time to accept any part configuration within the matrix area.

The fixture includes a base plate 1 with a series of tapped and numbered holes on one-inch centers. Sets of numbered pins of various diameters, such as pins 2-5, are positioned for location of individual parts, such as part 6, being assembled. A standard toggle clamp 7 is positioned in a predetermined fixed relationship to the parts to accommodate parts of different sizes.

The fixture is especially useful in assembly systems such as those making use of a computer-controlled robotic manipulator, as described in the U. S. Patent 4,132,318.
