For high-speed, high-quality printing, paper 3 is pressed by flexible platen 4 (fine-pored foam rubber) against electrodes 2 of print head 1 (Fig. 1). Flexible platen 4 rests on solid platen 5.

To ensure that the print conditions are the same for all electrodes, print head surface 6 is approximately circularly shaped, thus compensating for the deformation of the paper on flexible platen 4.

To avoid the accumulation of print debris (metal oxide and resist particles) between the print head surface and the paper, the print head surface, in comparison with the surface marked by broken lines, is rounded off on both sides of the electrodes in the direction of print (Fig. 2).
