Cable Connector with Integral Grounding Feature

The drawing shows a cable connector having a modified metal pilot structure for providing a ground path between machine ground and the cable shield.

The shielded cable 10 terminates at a connector 12 including a contact block 14 at one face. The contact block 14 is surrounded by a metal pilot or guide structure 16 which cooperates with a complementary metal guide structure 18 on the second connector 20 to align the contacts in block 14 with pins in a corresponding block carried by connector 20. The connector 12 includes a ground strap 22 which is electrically connected to pilot structure 16 by a conventional rivet 24. The opposite extremity 26 of ground strap 22 is forced into electrical contact with the shield of cable 10 by a wedge and clamp screw arrangement 28 to form a direct electrical connection between the shield and the pilot structure 16.

One or more integral leaf springs 30 are formed in the side walls of the pilot structure 16. The leaf springs 30 extend outwardly somewhat from the surface of the pilot structure.
