Abstract

The apparatus shown in Figs. 1 and 2 functions to magnetically couple an assembly 10 to a magnetic tape reel 11 to permit rotary motion. The magnetic coupling arrangement prevents stray flux from magnet 13 from adversely affecting the tape on reel 11. A metal disk member 14 is attached to the bottom of the reel. The movement of magnet 13 by magnet support member 15 in an axial direction positions the magnet 13 in an attracting relationship with member 14 while the outer cylindrical shunt sleeve 16 prevents stray flux from magnet 13 from affecting the magnetic tape.

A spring 18 may be provided to assist in controlling the attractive forces established between disk 14 and the circular edge of the outer shunt sleeve. Spring 18 is compressed, as shown in Fig. 2, when the clamping action is effective.
