Print Actuator Assembly

Split head matrix printer arrangements facilitate the simple removal and replacement of individual print actuators or of the complete bank of actuators.

The guide block 10 having holes 11 into which the print actuators are mounted can be removed by unscrewing two or three screws 12 and unplugging the print actuator wires without interfering with the oil box 13 or the drive mechanism 14 or the platen of the printer, as shown by the assembly in the above figure. Another feature shown in the assembly in the figure is that the guide block 10 can be assembled without adjustments in any axis by using angularly positioned mounting screws 12 which tighten into the guide block 10 against locating surfaces 16. This allows the easy assembly or disassembly for maintenance or replacement purposes. By using this mounting technique, the guide block 12 can be easily removed without affecting the platen or the internal safety cover that shields the power supply from the operator.

Further, the entire block can be removed without removing the main shaft 18 or the cams and drive mechanisms associated with moving the carrier 14 over the shaft 18.
