Piston/Spring Transfer Device and Carrier

Springs 10 and cooling slugs 12 to be placed in a metal cooling hat 14 for circuit modules are preloaded in reverse order into a container 16 in only those positions in which the module contains semiconductor circuit chips.

The container 16 is then placed over the hat 14, and the springs 10 and the cooling studs 14 are dropped into the openings 18 in the hat. A clear plastic template 20 with markings 22 indicating the populated cavities 18 of the cooling hat 14 is then placed over the hat to visually assure that the proper cavities have been loaded by the operation.
