Noise Reducing Coupling

There is shown and described a flexible coupling which inhibits the transmission of vibrations from one shaft to the other. A positive registration capability of the coupling compensates for angular misalignment which may arise as a result of using elastic material.

The figure shows the three-piece coupling for operatingly joining shafts 2 and
4. Flexible acoustic damping element 6 includes tenon projections 8 arranged in a pattern for mating with holes 10 in rigid plates 12. Plates 12 are attached to shafts 2 and 4 by setscrew 14.

When joined, tenons 8 project through holes 10 in facing plates 12. Tenons 8 are the driving connection between shafts 2 and 4.

High torque in either direction may be transmitted. The positive drive arrangement minimizes backlash. This device is particularly applicable to paper handling devices where quiet operation is most desirable.
