Table Initialization in a Telephone Exchange

This article describes a method for selectively initializing tables fro a table disk, a maintenance keyboard, or both in a stored program-controlled telephone exchange at Initial Program Loading (IPL) time.

The proposed method is implemented by an initialization program which is capable of processing a table disk which has been created by a system other than the telephone system, and which may use any data format. The program converts data from the table disk into data having a format executable by the telephone system and stores the later data into a system disk. Data from the table disk can be modified and new data can be entered into the tables through the maintenance keyboard. The program permits the updated tables to be copied into the table disk for further use.

When the initialization program starts running, the following message is displayed to the operator:. Table modification Yes/No/Ynd.

If options Ynd and No are selected, all the table elements are entered into the system from the table disk or the keyboard, respectively. If option Yes is selected, the following message is displayed to the operator: 01 . Stop on each record Y/Y+/N/RST/xX.

The following five options are available to the operator: Option N - element 01 in the table is loaded into the system from the table disk. Option Y - element 01 is entered into the system from the keyboard. Option Y+- element 01 and the titles of the various records consti...
