Abstract

In plasma display panels, conductor arrays are formed on glass plates and the conductors disposed substantially orthogonal to each other, whereby the intersections of the conductors define the gaseous discharge sites. The conductors are terminated on the end of the associated glass plate, and driving signals are applied from a driver board to the conductors from a signal source through a flat cable which must be clamped in position at the edge of the glass plate.

Circular Clip Pressure Connector

In plasma display panels, conductor arrays are formed on glass plates and the conductors disposed substantially orthogonal to each other, whereby the intersections of the conductors define the gaseous discharge sites. The conductors are terminated on the end of the associated glass plate, and driving signals are applied from a driver board to the conductors from a signal source through a flat cable which must be clamped in position at the edge of the glass plate.

Referring to the drawing, gas panel 11 has an edge portion 13 and a land portion 15 which is flush with the upper surface of the panel. Window tape 17 is a double-sided tape which is used for aligning and sealing the land terminals on the panel edge with the conductors in flat cable 21. A solid silicon elastomer pad has a rounded portion on the bottom surface adjacent the area 15 to apply pressure between the panel land terminals and the flat cable at area 15.

A rigid plastic load distribution pad 25 mounts directly over elastomer pad 23. The load distribution pad 25 has a depression 27 for containing one portion of a circular clip 29 which provides the spring force necessary to make and provide a pressure contact between the flat cable 21 and the panel land areas 15. The lower portion of the panel also includes a load distribution pad 31 with an opening 33 to contain the other end of the circular spring clip 29. The plastic load distribution pads 25 and 31 may comprise a...
