Abstract

Aqueous jet printing inks may contain a silicone glycol copolymer as a humectant and penetrant. Such an ink composition functions without a glycol or glycol ether with improved drying time when printed as a jet ink. The ink has improved stability in the nozzle orifice with a definite decrease in start-up pressure, such as after the ink jet printer is shut down over a period of time.

Such an ink composition functions without a glycol or glycol ether with improved drying time when printed as a jet ink. The general chemical formula for the class of dimethicone materials of particular interest is shown below. Suitable materials include Dow Corning 190* dimethicone copolyol, Dow Corning 193* dimethicone copolyol, and Dow Corning 473* dimethicone copolyol. The Dow Corning 193 dimethicone copolyol, which has an empirical formula of w=1, x=1, y=33 and z=1, is selected for its particular viscosity properties.

The same as Formula 1, except the Dow Corning 193 dimethicone copolyol is at 4 percent and the water is at 80.23 percent. Viscosity: 2.14 centistokes at 70 degrees F Surface tension: 25.6 dynes/cm at 70 degrees F

Formula 3

The same as Formulas 1 and 2 except the Dow Corning 193 dimethicone copolyol is at 3 percent and the water is at 81.23 percent. Viscosity: 2.0 centistokes at 70 degrees F Surface tension: 26.3 dynes/cm at 70 degrees F
