Tri Lead Test Using Loop Radiator

This scheme will single out a radiating tri-lead in a bundle of such tri-leads.

Loop 10 is placed around a number of tri-leads in a bundle 12 of tri-leads. The looped tri-leads 14 are pulled away from the remainder of the bundle 12 and electrically connected to a high frequency source through insulated conductors
16. Radiating energy is reduced to the minimum level that produces a detectable failure. The looped tri-leads 14 are then subdivided until a single failing tri-lead is isolated. Because of the low energy input and separation of the loop from the unlooped tri-leads, direct coupling from the loop 10 to the unlooped tri-leads is minimal.
