Dual Function Counterbalance

Two over-center counterbalance structures are interconnected to a single engaging spring through appropriate linkages.

Cover 10 pivots around stationary shaft 11 at insert hole 12 between the closed position shown and an over-center stop position at 13. Link 15 is coupled to pivot arm 16 which is attached for rotation around hole 18 by means not shown. Arm 16 is coupled to one end of spring 20.

Bracket member 25, which might be part of a module frame contained within cover 10, pivots in an over-center relation around fixed shaft 26 via hole 27 between the position as shown and the over-center position against stop 28. Cable 29 is coupled through slack adjustment means or turnbuckle 30 around pulley 31, which pivots about fixed shaft 32. The other end of cable 29 is attached to end 33 of spring 20.

By the structure shown, dual counterbalancing is provided through the use of a single spring with minimum parts and assembly cost, a sensitive adjustment capability and minimal space requirements.
