Abstract

In a time division multiple access (TDMA) network, channel assignment messages are repeated during several successive frames with a unique sequence number being assigned to each frame. A node which receives any one of the channel assignment messages can decode the sequence number to determine when the channel assignments are to be effective. Receipt of the channel assignment message need not be acknowledged by the receiving node.

In a time division multiple access (TDMA) network, channel assignment messages are repeated during several successive frames with a unique sequence number being assigned to each frame. A node which receives any one of the channel assignment messages can decode the sequence number to determine when the channel assignments are to be effective. Receipt of the channel assignment message need not be acknowledged by the receiving node.

In a broadcast TDMA network, available channels can periodically be reassigned to different nodes or stations as a function of the relative demands of those nodes. Referring to Fig. 1, network reconfiguration information or channel assignment (CA) packets can be transmitted from a central control node in a TDMA network in successive message frames. The repeated CA packets are identical except that each is identified by a unique sequence number.

For example, the CA packet transmitted in the first of four successive message frames may be identified by sequence number 4, while the CA packet transmitted in the last of the four message frames may be identified by sequence number 1.

Each receiver in the network will include logic for detecting the CA packet and the sequence number assigned to that packet.
