Abstract

A improved holographic scanner separates the incident and reflected light beams by a tilting of the scanned surfaces so that the beams trace different paths. As show in the drawing, the holographic scanner system 10 includes an incoming laser beam 12 directed along a first path to impinge on a moving hologram 14 to produce a scanning beam 16. The scanning beam 16 is directed to a specular reflecting surface 18 in a plane which is tilted at an angle, Alpha, so that the reflected beam 20 is directed along a second path for collection by a photodetector 22, thereby eliminating interference between the incoming 12 and reflected beams 20.
