Dynamic Paper Feed Hole Tester

A test device supplies dynamic forces to a paper print medium in the region of the feed holes to simulate dynamic forces of a pin feed mechanism on a print medium during acceleration and deceleration in a high speed printer.

A tester device comprises a base member 10 supporting vertical guide posts
11. A test platform 12, having bearing connections 13 with guide posts 11, rests on coil springs 14. A pin 15 of the type used in pin feed devices extends from the side of the test platform 12 through a feed hole 16 in a paper specimen 17. The paper is mounted in taut condition on a test frame 18 on an adjustable support 19 attached to base 10. A drop weight 20 is slideable on vertical guide post 11 to impact test platform 12. This causes test platform 12 to move downwardly, applying the impact force through pin 15 to the pin hole edge of paper 1.

The displacement of pin 15 is measured by a proximeter 21 placed opposite pin 15. This displacement signifies the amount the paper hole 16 has been deformed. Concurrently, the force exerted by the paper hole on the pin 15 is monitored by force transducer 22 on to which the pin is mounted. This transducer 22 is calibrated statically before use.
