Abstract

A multi-path channel-to-channel adapter needs a method to resolve the contention for the data transfer mechanism and interface adapters. This method should allow the requesting interface and channel to be free until the required resources are available. Such a method would be for the adapter to issue a device status requesting command retry without DE (device end) to a read or write command if resources are unavailable, disconnect command chain, and provide DE when resources are available. A device status of zero will be provided to a read or write command if resources are available and the command can be executed.
