Square Artwork Images on Glass to Produce Round Holes in Etched Metal Masks

It is known to produce a round hole in metal by etching methods. A round image is used on a glass plate for exposing resist-coated metal.

With the introduction of direct-write methods for glass master plate manufacture wherein an entire mask array is built on an artwork generator, the use of circular images is impractical due to the excessive flashing and aperture angle changes required to produce the artwork. This results in artwork generator run cycles which are lengthy and prohibitive.

It has been determined that square images on glass plates require only a single flash by the artwork generator which results in a considerable cycle reduction. As shown in the figure, round holes are still produced in metal masks etched through the square image.
