Apparatus for Correction of Non Impact Printing

Apparatus for cover-up correction of non-impact printing is shown and described.

The correction apparatus is mounted at a suitable position near the printhead on the printer, and the carriage is positioned so that the character to be corrected is opposite the correction apparatus. The correction apparatus is covered by a shield 12 when not in use.

The correction apparatus comprises a suitablc reservoir of liquid opaque correction fluid which may be contained in a compact replaceable cartridge. The correction fluid is directed to a porous application pad 14 which has a shape and size sufficient to cover any character within the font being used for printing. The correction device is actuated by energizing an electromagnet 16 for a suitable interval.

The correction cycle comprises positioning the character to be corrected opposite correction device 10, raising shield 12, and energizing electromagnet 16 to cause pad member 14 to be moved (as shown 6y the arrow in the drawing) into contact with the character to be corrected.

This correction cycle produces a uniform coating of the correction fluid to the erroneously printed character, and the printhead is then moved into position to print the correct character and resume normal operation of the printer.
