Abstract

This packaging system provides a static-safe, reuseable handling/ shipping container to protect printed circuit cards. Presently, circuit cards in the manufacturing line are handled in conductive trays. Cards, shipped from the end of the manufacturing line are packaged in static shielding bags and corrugated cases with thermo-formed dividers. The multiple card case is designed to take the place of the two previous packaging/handling methods. The static safety of this container comes from the design of the case shown in the figure as well as from the materials used in the case. The injection-molded outer case 1 and cover 2 are made of high impact conductive polypropylene. This creates an envelope that shields cards from induced E-fields.

The injection-molded outer case 1 and cover 2 are made of high impact conductive polypropylene. This creates an envelope that shields cards from induced E-fields. In addition, the conductive case prevents static from building up (due to movement or a static discharge of the case) by creating an electrical pathway to ground. This is done through the ground snap 3 attached to the outer case or by placing the case on a grounded workstation. To solve the problem of the card electrically discharging or charging when placed into or removed from the case, the inner case was made from static dissipative and anti-static materials.
