Centrifugal Foam Separation

The addition of wetting agents to plating baths creates foam that causes erratic and often incorrect measurements of bath parameters. The installation of a cyclone separator in the sa stream of an automatic bath chemical analyzer eliminates the foam and its associated problems.

The separator works as follows. As seen in the schematic, the plating bath solution enters the cyclone separator 1 from the bath pump 2 where the foam is separated from the solution. The foam-free solution is sent to the automatic sampler 3 and the foam is returned to the plating bath 4.
