Abstract

A thermal printhead has its number of electrodes varied through using different printhead etchings in accordance with the desired density. In all-points-addressable (APA) printing, the pel density depends upon the number of electrodes of the thermal printhead and the line spacing during printing. For example, with 40 electrodes for 1/6" line spacing during printing, the density is 240 pels. Various software is designed for printing with 144- or 180-pel density rather than 240-pel density. With the 240-pel density, the thermal printhead with 40 electrodes cannot be utilized with such software. By using only 24 electrodes, there could be APA printing at a density of 144 pels. By employing 30 electrodes, there could be APA printing at a density of 180 pels.
