Abstract

In electronic unit cooling applications it is not uncommon to find a tubeaxial fan exhausting air against a wall. In such situations, there are pressure losses due to air impinging on the wall. The tubeaxial fan airflow deflector described decreases these pressure losses. Fig. 1 presents the isometric view of the deflector. The deflector is centered on the exhaust side of the fan 12, as shown in Fig. 2. The airflow 14-14 is deflected so that pressure losses are minimized. Thus, higher airflow is realized for a fan in a given system. This results in improved cooling. The deflector 10 can be mounted on the fan unit or the electronic unit cabinet (not shown), or can be a separate piece on or integral with the wall 16, as shown in Fig. 2.
