Abstract

This article describes a bus diagnostic tool which allows any kind of error on a bus to be simulated. The tool also keeps track of the level of all the bus lines, when preselected events occur on that bus, and can emulate bus functions that are helpful when simulating a bus adapter that is not yet available. The tool is inserted serially on the bus to be studied between the bus controller adapter and the various peripheral adapters. The tool is mainly comprised of a Control processor and a front end hardware. The Control processor controls initialization of the front end hardware and acquisition of the results of the various operations, using a menu-driven software package.
