Abstract

The air spring test probe is made up of multiple chambers and pistons on a single push rod. The rod is a solid electrical probe and wire connection which eliminates parasitic capacitance and resistance associated with prior-art probes. Spring pressure is changed by changing an externally supplied air pressure. In the figure, a piston 1 is made of copper and is a conductor as well as a piston. Piston 1 is fitted very closely to a cylinder block 2 and spacer plates 3. The spacer plates and cylinder block 2 are made of TEFLON*-filled plastic that is nonconductive and self lubricating. Pressure regulated shop air is supplied to the cylinder block 2 through an air manifold 7, and the adjusting of this pressure will change the probe force which remains constant throughout its travel. * Trademark of E.
