Abstract

The shroud/planar board assembly is a two-piece molded plastic frame for retaining a planar board assembly 1, as shown in Fig. 2. It combines a number of features, such as grounding, electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection, strength, blind plugging for connectors, as well as a field replaceable unit that can be replaced without removing the disk enclosure from the frame assembly. The grounding clips 2 are installed into the back half of the shroud 3. The planar board 1 is then inserted under the shroud tabs 4 and pushed forward until the ground pads 5 on planar board 1 make contact with grounding clips 2. The front half of the shroud 6 is placed over the planar board 1 and the two halves are snapped together, as shown in Fig. 1.

The planar board 1 is then inserted under the shroud tabs 4 and pushed forward until the ground pads 5 on planar board 1 make contact with grounding clips 2. The front half of the shroud 6 is placed over the planar board 1 and the two halves are snapped together, as shown in Fig. 1. The shroud/planar board assembly 100 is installed in the carrier frame assembly 7 and is bottomed out against two turned- up flanges 8. These flanges 8 contact the grounding clips 2 on the shroud/planar board assembly 100 and complete the ground path. The connection between the motor connector 9 and the planar board 1 is also made at this time (Fig. 2).
