Electrical Plug Transporter Locator

This article describes an electrical male/female connector which also serves as a mechanical locator and can be repeatedly locked and unlocked from its position. The connector locator is made up of a male assembly and a female assembly, indicated in the figure.

The male assembly is made up of three different parts: electrical locator 1, locator tip 2 and electrical probe 3. Locator 1 and tip 2 are both made of reinforced plastic. Tip 2 has eight brass probes installed. These probes have facilities for soldering a wire on one end, and provide a mating surface for their female counterparts when the male and female assemblies are locked. The female socket assembly is made up of four different parts: items locator and socket assembly 4, cover 5, moving probe 6 and spring 7. Locator and socket assembly 4 and cover 5 are made of TEFLON*- filled plastic. Locator and socket assembly 4 has eight spring-loaded probes (6 and 7) disposed therein, positioned to mate the mating probes installed in locator tip 2 of the male assembly. The male and female assemblies are latched together by a bar which is a part of the female assembly.

This bar drops into a notch depression 8 on locator 1 of the male assembly when the male assembly is fully inserted into the female assembly.
