Abstract

A method is described for relieving a file transfer application from processing large amounts of data after an error is detected. The IBM PC Network SNA 3270 Emulation Program is a software package which allows the personal computer to emulate a 3274 control unit with an attached 3278/3279 display and a 3287 printer in varying configurations facilitating stand-alone and network operation. This product attaches to a host using SDLC/SNA protocols and has file transfer capabilities. When a file transfer application detects an error, it must wait for session turnaround to send an appropriate response. The data received in the meantime is extraneous. This method relieves the application from processing this data. During file transfer on PC Network 3270, the application may indicate when an error has been detected.

File Transfer Purge Mechanism

The lower level file transfer processor recognizes this indication and will purge all data from the host until the session state is such that the transfer application can return a response.
