Abstract

Two mirrored glass plates having perfect registration and alignment with different images can be made from one master pattern and a characterization glass. Generate the cavity pattern as a positive image and chemically reverse, creating a correct negative B. Create the tab pattern, and process as a correct negative A. Contact print A to a positive image. In this step, interrupt the chemical reversal process by bypassing the second exposure and second develop fix, and wash and dry. This procedure creates a pattern with unsensitized areas on an otherwise sensitized photo plate. Contact print B to this plate of unsensitized areas and process develop as a reverse positive C, resulting in tines having breaks (tabs) in them. Through normal process contact print B and process as a Reverse Negative E.

Mirrored Tab/Cavity Artwork

Through normal process contact print C and process as a correct negative D. Negatives D and E will match for registration and alignment of images, as they are made from one master. Alternatively, mirrored tab/cavity artwork can be generated as follows: Build basic pattern (cavity) as a correct positive F. Build tab pattern as a correct positive and reverse process to a correct negative G. Contact print F to positive resist-coated chrome glass, and also contact G to same chrome. Develop and etch positive resist- coated chrome glass to obtain reverse positive tab/cavity pattern H. Register, emulsion F to chrome H for subsequent exposure to foils.
